The Internet through its Web 2.0 tools such as blogs, social networks are shaping and determining our activities, our relationship with the world. Because of that Dr. Michael Wesch at Kansas State University has titled one of his videos “The Machine is Us/ing Us.” And Nicolas Carr, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”
The truth is, as Marshall McLuhan says, "The message is the medium." In another words, the Internet provides us information they tweet, tchat, text, facebook… and it becomes obvious that a student I met while videotaping at the main library told me that he was aware that many students barely look at a book at the library unless told to do so.
Those students do use the Internet for nearly every assignment because of the interactivity and hypertextuality. The consequence is those students barely know the color of chairs at the library and the joy of touching books.
Some ways, google does not make us stupid, its allow people to stay connected in a dynamic way, a way that abolishes time and space and that allow access to any kind of documents online by gathering all of them online.
