A study published by Reuters on Monday 08th shows that 54% of people from India, 52% of Turkish, and 48% of Japanese think women should stay in the home. As Monday 8th is a day to celebrate advocacy for women’s rights this is a strange present. However, it is a call to think again on women’s conditions in the world. Why should women stay home and men work outside? The response is a matter of money. If stay-at-home wives and mothers could earn money for raising children, housekeeping and caring for her husband men would refuse them this opportunity. No husband would agree to paying his wife for managing their house. Let’s reverse the situation. Would these husbands accept staying home without a salary and their wives working in an office? They would probably refuse because any work where there is a chance to get money, men are there and refuse to let women in. They want all the money for themselves only. Likely, not all men prefer to confine women at home. 34% of Chinese, 25% of Australians, 22% of Americans and British, and 9% of French and Argentineans think women should stay home. This is a great improvement, although the numbers are still high. But, I’m not worried at all. It is only a thought not a will to be applied.
